In a creatively low-budget twist of the prison genre, by the time bad lockup girl Jeanne Carmen fights friendly newcomer Lori Nelson, who's defending blonde bombshell singing sister Mamie Van Doren, she soon becomes their friend... because in this particular work-farm, square-jawed big boss John Russell's practically the sole antagonist, a hybrid of warden and cheating businessman...
Connected with by being secreted married to an older woman, who just happens to be the small town ranch-owning judge that winds up intentionally sentencing outsiders to her man's makeshift hoosegow, and whose son, fresh from the Navy, is as heroic as Russell is (with trained dobermans) borderline deadly...

Yet UNTAMED YOUTH is really one of those 1950's flicks combining popular music (from early-rock to calypso) with searing melodrama... and includes legendary musician Eddie Cochran as a character named Bong who, doing what sounds like more like his Elvis imitation (ala Twenty Flight Rock for the song Cotton Picker) than his own cool style (like Summertime Blues), was a pretty natural actor, fitting with hip semi-cons Wayne Taylor (who resembles Ken Miller and played a speed freak in TOUCH OF EVIL) and eccentric beatnik Jered Barclay...
The only downside to this Howard W. Koch/Aubrey Schenck production is a far too jovial cook and too many distracting scenes with hero Don Burnett romancing Nelson when there should've been more combative gusto within the otherwise sordid confides since, while it lasted, Jeanne Carmen, Mamie Van Doren and b-cutie Yvonne Lime had both the energy and vulnerability for a handful of woman-in-prison programmers.
