His mission's to figure out then kill the killer of a former associate, all leading to the titular Eiger in Switzerland, where the death had occurred while the last act has mountain-climbing sequences not nearly as involving, intense or even adventurous as when Eastwood traipses from one investigative close-call to the next...
Dealing with those unpredictable gals, old friends (from George Kennedy to Jack Cassidy) or random henchman that he's in more control of than the anticipated hiking movie that could have starred anyone since, despite Clint the actor and director doing some his own stunts, it's all monotonously uphill after the twisty albeit talky buildup — where the lead seems more a resilient spy than hit-man, and his culprits don't pose much of a threat either way.
