Diana Dors in YIELD TO THE NIGHT Year: 1956 Rating: **1/2 |
The true life capital punishment expose YIELD TO THE NIGHT had its name changed to BLONDE SINNER, with poster images focusing on a gun-wielding, femme-fatale type in the full-lipped Marilyn Monroe of England, Diana Dors, smitten by her seemingly bad boy boyfriend in lounge piano player Michael Craig...
But this 1950's J. Lee Thompson vehicle is more melodrama than any kind of thriller, mostly taken place inside a death row cell where Dors, as condemned Mary Hilton, strikes up a dialog-filled friendship with lady guard Yvonne Mitchell...

So what suspense there is... in what could have been a great British noir saving the inevitable lockup punishment for the final act... is a sulking Dors waiting for execution, while the taken-for-a-ride audience awaits the inevitable conclusion...
A shame since Doors can portray feisty crime-minded blondes equal to Michael Craig's swarthy hoodlums, making this dream-cast couple more a dull daydream, mostly under bright lights deleting any shadow-filled noirish possibilities, despite having NIGHT in the title.
