JULIE EGE IN 'THE FREAKMAKER' AKA 'THE MUTATIONS'

Julie Ege in THE FREAKMAKER aka THE MUTATIONS Year: 1974 Rating: ***1/2
Originally titled THE MUTATIONS, which is a much better and far more logical fit since THE FREAKMAKER Donald Pleasence, a mellow college professor/secret mad scientist, is only important and formidable during the first half...

After which, as the doctor ordered, the rest of this shockingly entertaining exploitation-horror features real freaks working under Pleasence and future Doctor Who Tom Baker, made up as "The Ugliest Man in the World" and (with the help of a villainous dwarf) stalks the college town with enough clothes to cover up his mangled puss...
Brad Harris, Jill Haworth, Julie Ege and Scott Antony in The Freakmaker
But the draw are the beautiful ladies including first victim Olga Anthony and 1960's child-to-teen starlet Jill Haworth: the latter whose boyfriend is doomed to freakhood being such a non-believer in their professor's lectures about how plants are animals, and one day can be human replacements: a theory he and his henchmen are putting into practice...

But Norway beauty Julie Ege is our primary scream queen, who, along with her own stalwart boyfriend, winds up under Pleasence's laboratory knife. Yet the best scenes have the victims stalked in the usual horror fashion, but not killed, which is the purpose all along — here the hunt is only the beginning.
