HOW TO KEEP AN AUDIENCE IN SUSPENSE IN 'LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE' OF A T-SHIRT WITH MORE THAN JUST 'JESUS WAS' WRITTEN ON IT
![]() |
Now to a diner, the kid is still covering his shirt, and we remember WAS and now only see the name of JESUS |
![]() |
Watch close... The kid is finally about to move his arms away to eat, but watch dad (face unseen) holding the coffee cup... |
![]() |
Thus allowing the kid to eat his food, arms free, with dad's cup and hand doing his (actually the filmmaker's) job for him |
![]() |
What's this? A full shot of the shirt, but... We still can't see what is says... It's blurry; too far... Even really close (cheating) it's still blurry... |

Next shot we go back to the crossing of the arms... It's like that kid just doesn't wanna show us yet... What's up? |
![]() |
Oh, oh, wait, for a split second grandpa moves and... Is that a B? I looks like a B! An R is shown clearly but that's it, and again, it's a split second... |

After which, the kid does it again... Conveniently crossing those arms and keeping anyone who notices in suspense... |
![]() |
Well there's something new... After all, you can't cross your arms when you're reading, so just move forward and let the seat cover it... |
![]() |
Wait a minute, do we finally... No again... While it's a full shot, this one's not only far and blurry, but the shirt's wrinkled... No luck... Not yet... |

But now... The would-be military kid, after clicking George W. Bush off the TV, lies down on the motel bed... still covering up until... |

The obviously intentional prolonged reveal of what the shirt says all along, and what it'd covered up till now... JESUS WAS WRONG |
