But there’s simply too much time with the channeling old lady who ties the franchise together, experiencing her intrepid, meditating ventures into the actual nightmare factory: a not exceptionally scary place, being the origin of what’s truly suspenseful and terrifying while reflected onto the outside realm where the best scenes occur, the real story exists, and we should have remained for much longer with the ultimate vulnerable ingĂ©nue for this particular genre: a beautiful young girl stuck in bed with two broken legs. Ah, just what the horror doctor ordered!
The location within an antique apartment complex is effective and creepy, especially as the camera glides throughout mazes of spooky vents where a wheezing wraith exists, and who's far more chilling at a quick glimpse rather than a full gander giveaway. Meanwhile, those two funny slacker ghost hunters seem more a tacked-on punchline than an important part of the story, like the last film. But overall, i3 is a decent rollercoaster even when it fails to stay on track.
