Cinematic heads are hung low on this sad day: the death of Ray Harryhausen, who brought dreams and nightmares to life with the use of stop-motion animation in films like THE VALLEY OF GWANGI, SINBAD AND THE SEVEN SEAS, THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD, the original MIGHTY JOE YOUNG and CLASH OF THE TITANS and other countless, boundless, foundational and sensationally timeless motion picture classics.
A sad day when I saw that he had died. Such a huge part of my childhood was Ray Harryhausen and the movies he worked on. My uncle loved his movies and turned me on to him, taking me to movie theaters in the mid 70's that would play multiple Harryhausen movies - many a double and triple feature I attended.
A triple feature...those were the days - spending an afternoon drinking cokes and overdosing on candy and popcorn in an anceint movie palace of old that had gone to seed but still awesome in its seediness. I miss those old magical places. Way better than the current sanitized sameness we have at every new movie complex.
Anyway RIP Mr. Harryhausen. Thank you for all these years of awesomeness. Who needs CGI when you had a walking breathing Special Effect in RH.
