TEN MORE OSCAR SNUBS: ACTORS VOL 2

1) FREDERIC FORREST (APOCALYPSE NOW)
Robert Duvall stoles scenes as the Wagner-blaring Colonel Kilgore but let’s face it, the real supporting nom belonged to Forrest who, as the tightly wound Chef, is one of the main characters and provides intense moments, especially when he freaks out about that f'ing tiger…
2) JOHN CAZALE (THE GODFATHER PART II)
He’s not dumb, like everybody says, he’s smart… He knows Havana like the back of his hand… And Fredo, the weak Corleone, means a lot in this classic sequel…
3) TIM ROTH (RESERVOIR DOGS)
We realize this sleeper classic didn't even make a blip on the radar until hitting video shelves, but when he's bleeding and dying on a warehouse floor, with only enough life to muster a backstory of a cop going undercover in a den of snakes, Tim Roth’s Mr. Orange is the true star of Quentin Tarantino’s first film...
4) JAMES CAGNEY (WHITE HEAT)
Those immense headaches causing Cody Jarrett to scramble for his life, something only Cagney could pull off without seeming hammy… The cold, calculating and yet totally likable mama’s boy gangster, whether locked up or on the road, is one tough cookie and a real human being…
5) MALCOLM MCDOWELL (A CLOCKWORK ORANGE)
On the streets, Alex DeLeon embodies sinister evil but is a deer caught in headlights after being thrown in prison and, after a government “cure,” you’ll somehow feel for him during a strata of vengeful comeuppance…
6) JUDD NELSON (THE BREAKFAST CLUB)
There was a time when comedies rarely got Oscar’s attention… But we all know this CLUB is more than a laugher: it’s a heartfelt ensemble and Judd’s criminal metal-head John Bender steals the show completely…
7) KEIR DULLEA (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY)
He’s a mellow astronaut playing by the book until that rascally computer takes over. Keir's Dave Bowman keeps his cool and plays HAL 9000's game, but eventually gets more and more intense... And all the makeup aside, his vulnerable expressions as he ages, in the end of the film, are truly remarkable...
8) STEVE McQUEEN (BULLITT)
A low-key performance, but that’s who Frank Bullitt is, a professional cop keeping his cool… And in this crime classic, Steve McQueen brought an iconic hero to life... And is by far his best, most subtle performance...
9) DAVID WARNER (STRAW DOGS)
A modern Lenny from OF MICE AND MEN, David Warner, who later played villainous roles to the hilt, is the mentally-challenged Henry Niles who causes an uproar in a small English town… And when all’s said and done, he’s the most important character…
10) RALPH MEEKER (PATHS OF GLORY)
Ralph Meeker, Timothy Carey and Joseph Turkel are sentence to die for “cowardice” by the French army in the First World War… Ralph's performance is beyond realistic, and his acting seems very modern...
