SILENT MOVIE

year: 1976
cast: Mel Brooks, Dom Deluise, Marty Feldman, Burt Reynolds, James Caan
rating: ***1/2
Mel Brooks makes a silent movie (with title cards and all) about a has-been director with a crazy idea: to make a silent movie. Brooks, along with Dom Deluise and Marty Feldman, drive around seeking big stars for their picture: Burt Reynolds, James Caan, Paul Newman, and Liza Minelli: all victims of the trio's non-stop physical comedy. Harold Gould as a keystone corporate villain and Bernedette Peters as the love interest snag the hijinks a bit, but the action always finds new ground. Not hilarious like BLAZING SADDLES, but you'll be entertained.
