The second film, in which the gang of goofs went from the Academy into the streets, worked well. But here they're back to basics, helping spaced-out Lassard (George Gaynes) keep the original Police Academy from being shut-down: thus having to compete with another academy, full of uptight, robotic cops and run by the villainous Mouser (Art Metrano). This bland mess not only rehashes the original, but using new recruits Bobcat Goldthwait, Tim Kazurisnky (both returning from part 2), and Brian Toshi, lets the former recruits, including Steve Guttenberg and the other familiar faces, become teachers: with dissapointing results. And Michael Winslow doesn't use his usually priceless voice-effects to trick people, but as a musical boom box. Snore.
