COLLATERAL DAMAGE

title: COLLATERAL DAMAGE
year: 2002
cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Turturro, Elias Koteas, Jsu Garcia
rating: ***

While the setup - as we're introduced to fireman Arnold Schwarzenegger and his family... a perfect wife and child whom he adores more than life itself - is predictable and melodramatic, it sets the stage for a decent seek-and-destroy revenge flick directed by Andrew Davis, no stranger to bombastic fare. Arnold travels to Columbia to find the guerrillas responsible for the explosion that killed his family, and goes from one compound to another (miraculously keeping a low profile as a six foot white man) and doing what he does best: terminate. On the peripheral is an evil CIA agent keeping an eye on our hero, resulting in two explosive climaxes as Arnie, acting both tough and vulnerable, takes out each tier of villainy.

  1. I saw this flick when it first came out on video, but had completely forgotten about it until now.

  2. it wasn't bad. i thought it would be god awful, you know, since arnold was really hitting the bottom (eraser, end of days) before quitting acting for politics, but i was entertained.
